How do we count windows?

At Shining Image, we believe in transparent pricing and making sure our customers understand exactly what they’re paying for. One of the most common questions we get is: “How do you count windows?” Since windows come in many shapes, sizes, and styles, we use a consistent and fair method to ensure accurate pricing.

Our standard per-window rate is approximately $10, but we also offer package deals where the price per window decreases based on the number of windows cleaned. Whether it’s a single-hung window, bay window, skylight, or French doors, each type requires a different level of effort to clean, which is why we have a detailed breakdown of how we count windows.

Below, we explain how we categorize and count windows, so you know exactly what to expect when booking your streak-free, professional window cleaning service.

Types of Windows

Single-Hung and Double-Hung Windows

Each sash (movable part) is considered a separate window if it can be opened independently.

A standard double-hung window with 2 operable sashes is counted as 2 windows.

Casement Window

A single casement window with 1 large pane is counted as 1 window. If there are multiple casements side by side, each operable section is counted separately.

Sliding Window

Each sliding panel is considered a separate window. If a sliding window has 2 panels, we count it as 2 windows.

Picture (Fixed) Window

Medium, non-opening windows (like picture windows) count as 1 unit. Larger sizes must be seen first to price them.

Bay & Bow Windows

Each section of a bay or bow window is counted individually, including the arch on top.  A typical bay window with 3 sections would be counted as 3 windows. If it has more sections, they are counted individually as well.

French Windows & Doors

Each individual pane within the door or window is counted separately due to the detailed work required. It has to be quoted first.

  • Approximate price per pane: $3 – $5 per pane

Storm Windows

If storm windows are present, we count them separately because they require additional cleaning steps. They need to be seen first.

  • Approximate price: Starting at $25, depending on the difficulty.
  • Since storm windows involve an additional layer(s) of glass, they require extra cleaning steps (it’s not uncommon to see our techs with squished fingers 😆) , which increases the overall price. The final cost depends on accessibility and condition.

Skylight Windows

These are counted as individual windows. Skylights may have an additional fee due to accessibility challenges.

Transom Window

These are counted as individual windows.
